Official Press Release Progress Report Re: Proposed We would
like to take this opportunity of Leicester Speedway Supporters Club’s 25 year
anniversary of closure of Leicester Stadium, to present this formal press
release from the developing consortium negotiating the development of Beaumont
Sports Complex, which includes the new speedway stadium. Within the
public domain it would appear that progress is very slow. However, we are
pleased to report that our project through the encouragement and enthusiasm of
the stakeholders involved has grown in size beyond our initial proposals. We
are extremely encouraged by the positive contribution made by Leicester City
Council, we have been encouraged by local ward councillors to attend a number
of local resident events and from our view point these have been positive and
led us to believe that our project should be well received both politically and
in the public domain. As a consequence of this public consultation led by ward
councillor and local MP the result is a larger and more sustainable project. We
understand that the cabinet report has now been prepared. This is an extremely
complicated document that addresses many complex many complex issues relating
to our proposals. We hope that the cabinet report will require little or no
amendment prior to formal cabinet approval early in the autumn. As a
consequence it would appear now unlikely that the Lions will return to the
track in Beaumont Leys during 2009. However, once cabinet support has been
received we will be instigating the planning process and look to securing a
favourable planning permission as early as possible. We continue to pursue a
commencement on site as early as possible with a view to ensuring this work
completes to suit the commencement of the following speedway season. We would
also like to thank you for your support during this time, as without the public
awareness and pressure campaign of the speedway supporters of Leicester, this
project would have not materialized at all. You have had to wait for speedway
to return to your city for sometime and we hope that this wait is nearing its
end. We request that you remain patient with us during this delicate
negotiation period and await the next steps towards returning speedway to We hope to
update you again soon, once further information becomes available Simon Arnold Director |
